SHALER TOWNSHIP, PA — Police are investigating a scam targeting customers in the parking lot of a Giant Eagle supermarket.

Two suspects approached victims on Monday claiming they needed money for a funeral but could not accept cash, according to the Shaler Township Police Department.

The victims provided credit or debit cards for donations, and the suspects electronically copied the cards to make unauthorized charges or access bank accounts to transfer money to a PayPal account, police said.

The suspects were driving a black Chrysler Pacifica and were described as black males.

Police are asking anyone who was victimized or has information about the incident to contact the department.

Authorities are warning residents to use caution as fraudulent activities are active in the area.

Police advise residents not to provide personal or financial information to anyone soliciting money in person or over the phone.
