SARATOGA COUNTY, NY — A Waterford man was arrested Thursday on charges he fraudulently billed the county for childcare services he did not provide.
Jason L. Wellington, 48, of Waterford, was charged with two counts of grand larceny in the third degree and 11 counts of offering a false instrument for filing in the first degree.
Wellington is accused of billing Saratoga County for childcare services he allegedly provided in 2025 in the town of Waterford when he was not providing them.
He is accused of stealing more than $3,000 on two occasions.
Wellington was arraigned before Judge Julie Gazetos in Ballston Spa Village Court and released on his own recognizance.
The investigation was conducted jointly by the Saratoga County Sheriff’s Office and the Special Investigations Unit of the Saratoga County Department of Social Services.
The grand larceny charges are class D felonies, while the false instrument charges are class E felonies.
