ALTONA, NY — A man wanted on an arrest warrant was found dead from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound after barricading himself inside a residence during a police operation on Feb. 2, 2026.

Members of the New York State Police were executing a court-authorized search warrant at 3802 Military Turnpike to locate Roger Robare, 62, of Altona, who was the subject of an active arrest warrant.

During the operation, Robare barricaded himself inside the residence and refused to comply with verbal commands from law enforcement.

The New York State Police Special Operations Response Team and Crisis Negotiations Unit attempted to establish communications and worked to resolve the situation safely.

After having no contact from Robare, drones were deployed inside the residence, and he was located deceased from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound to the chest.

Emergency Medical Services were requested and responded to the scene.

No law enforcement or members of the public were injured during the incident.

The incident remains under investigation by the New York State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation, Professional Standards Bureau, and the New York State Attorney General’s Office.

Clinton County Coroner Chad Deans responded to the scene.

An autopsy will be scheduled at a later date.
