Arrests made after disabled vehicle stop in Harrietstown

HARRIETSTOWN, NY — New York State Police responded at approximately 8:21 a.m. Jan. 29 to a disabled vehicle on State Route 3 in Harrietstown, where they assisted the Department of Environmental Conservation officers.

Police identified the occupants of the 2019 Jeep Cherokee as Nicole D. Lawyer, 38, of Peru; Darin W. York, 32, of Peru; and Alex M. Furnace, 37, of Plattsburgh.

During interviews, Furnace gave officers false information about his identity.

Further investigation revealed there was an active bench warrant for Furnace, issued by New York State Police in Plattsburgh.

York was also found to have an active warrant issued by the Tompkins County Sheriff’s Department.

Lawyer, the driver, was discovered to have a suspended New York State driver’s license.

All three were arrested and transported to State Police Tupper Lake for further processing.

Lawyer was released with Vehicle and Traffic Law tickets, returnable to Town of Harrietstown Court.

Furnace was charged with false personation and released on an appearance ticket, also returnable to Town of Harrietstown Court.

York was released after the Tompkins County Sheriff’s Department declined extradition on the outstanding warrant.

Furnace was then turned over to New York State Police Plattsburgh for pending charges, including grand larceny in the third degree, for a separate incident.

On Sept. 25, at approximately 11:23 a.m., troopers responded to Runnings on Centre Drive in Plattsburgh for a reported larceny.

An investigation determined that Furnace entered Runnings on two occasions and stole merchandise valued at $3,583, leaving without paying.

Furnace was arraigned in Town of Plattsburgh Court and remanded to Clinton County Jail in lieu of $2,000, or $4,000 bond.
