Campus lockdown lifted after suspicious person report in Penn Yan

PENN YAN, NY — Yates County sheriff’s deputies and New York State Police responded to a suspicious person report at Keuka College early Tuesday morning.

At 12:54 a.m., law enforcement was dispatched to 141 Central Avenue after a report was received that a conversation was taking place on YikYak about a male with a backpack and a gun walking around campus and making entry into a building.

The campus was placed in lockdown.

Deputies arrived on scene within approximately four minutes.

Law enforcement remained on scene for several hours conducting searches and interviews.

At this time there appears to be no valid threat to the campus or the community, according to Sheriff Francis E. Ryan.

The school lockdown was lifted.

Law enforcement will continue to investigate the incident to determine the source of the report.

New York State Troopers Cramer and Walrath, along with Keuka Campus Security and administration, assisted in the response.
