BINGHAMTON, NY — Two people are facing multiple charges after a high-speed pursuit that ended with a stop-stick deployment early Thursday.
Deputies observed a black Jeep matching the description of a vehicle involved in multiple pursuits with Binghamton police at approximately 1:54 a.m. on Glenwood Avenue.
The Jeep was using license plates reported stolen from Johnson City.
The vehicle failed to stop when deputies attempted a traffic stop and traveled northbound on Julian Street at a high rate of speed, ignoring stop signs and jumping a curb onto Holland Street.
The pursuit continued onto Prospect Street, with the Jeep reaching speeds of approximately 70 mph while ignoring multiple red lights and sliding across multiple lanes of traffic.
The driver fled eastbound on State Route 17, weaving across multiple lanes and reaching speeds of approximately 90 mph.
The front seat passenger climbed into the back seat and began throwing objects at the patrol vehicle, including a gas can, laundry, what appeared to be metal tools, CDs and other miscellaneous items.
The Jeep exited at Exit 12 after swerving across all lanes of traffic and between two tractor trailers.
The vehicle ran another red light and proceeded onto Interstate Route 81 South while the passenger continued throwing objects at pursuing patrols.
A deputy positioned near Exit 9 successfully deployed stop-sticks on the fleeing vehicle, flattening both front tires.
The vehicle came to a stop shortly after crossing the stop-stick.
The driver exited the vehicle and was placed into custody after initially ignoring verbal commands to halt.
The passenger was taken into custody without further incident.
The driver was identified as Sean L. Brown, 26, of Binghamton.
Brown was found to have multiple warrants from Pennsylvania State Police in Gibson, including one felony.
The passenger was identified as Kiley N. Bonilla-Lattanze, 24, of Binghamton.
A small plastic bag containing a crystal-like substance that field tested positive for methamphetamine was found in the vehicle.
The vehicle was determined to be unregistered, uninspected and uninsured.
Brown’s license was suspended due to failure to answer 13 summonses on four separate dates.
Brown was charged with unlawful fleeing a police officer in a motor vehicle in the third degree, obstruction of governmental administration in the second degree, two counts of reckless endangerment in the second degree, criminal possession of a controlled substance in the seventh degree and 47 traffic violations.
Bonilla-Lattanze was charged with obstruction of governmental administration in the second degree, reckless endangerment in the second degree and criminal possession of a controlled substance in the seventh degree.
Bonilla-Lattanze was processed and released with appearance tickets returnable to Kirkwood Town Court.
Brown is being held at the Broome County Correctional Facility pending extradition by Pennsylvania State Police.
