Woman arrested in Newark, NY

NEWARK, NY — State police arrested a woman after recovering a stolen vehicle and confirming an out-of-state warrant.

On Jan. 19, 2026, New York State Police were notified by the Pennsylvania State Police that Dakota Root, 24, of Lyons, was wanted on an active Pennsylvania warrant and was believed to be operating a stolen vehicle in Wayne County.

The vehicle, a 2021 Nissan Rogue, had been reported stolen from Tioga County, Pennsylvania.

Through investigation, troopers located Root and the stolen vehicle at a residence on Woodside Drive in the village of Newark.

Root admitted to operating the vehicle and was found to be in possession of the vehicle key.

The vehicle was recovered and secured.

Root was taken into custody without incident and charged with criminal possession of stolen property in the third degree, a class D felony, and fugitive from justice based on the Pennsylvania warrant.

Root was processed at State Police Lyons and transported to the Wayne County Jail for centralized arraignment.
