GREECE, NY — A 55-year-old man faces multiple charges after allegedly stealing a vehicle from a convenience store parking lot and leading police on a chase.
Greece Police officers responded to the 7-Eleven at 2678 Dewey Avenue at approximately 11:05 p.m. on Jan. 15, 2026, for a report of a stolen vehicle.
The victim told police he was inside the store when he saw his black Chevrolet Equinox backing out of a parking space and traveling eastbound on Barnard Street.
An officer located the vehicle traveling south on Dewey Avenue and attempted a traffic stop, but the driver failed to comply and a pursuit began.
The chase continued into the City of Rochester at low speeds.
New York State Police attempted to deploy tire-deflation devices on multiple occasions without success.
While traveling southbound on Lake Avenue, the suspect attempted an abrupt left turn and collided with a marked patrol vehicle.
The suspect was taken into custody and transported to a local hospital for evaluation due to complaints of pain related to the collision.
After being treated and released, he was transported to the Monroe County Jail.
John Ransom, 55, was charged with grand larceny, criminal possession of stolen property, unauthorized use of a vehicle, unlawful fleeing a police officer, resisting arrest, obstructing governmental administration and aggravated unlicensed operation.
He was scheduled for arraignment in CAP Court.
