CORNWALL, NY — A pedestrian was struck and killed by a vehicle on Angola Road on Jan. 13, 2026.
The Orange County 911 Center dispatched the Town of Cornwall Police Department to the area of 186 Angola Road at approximately 8:38 p.m.
Police said a 2011 Toyota Rav 4 operated by Ira Margolis, 79, of Highland Mills, was traveling south on Angola Road when it struck Juan Sumba, 47, of Queens.
Sumba was transported by Cornwall EMS to St. Luke’s Hospital in Newburgh, where he died from his injuries.
Margolis remained on the scene and was fully cooperative with the investigation, police said.
No criminality is suspected at this time, though the incident remains under investigation by the department’s detective unit.
The Town of Cornwall Police Department was assisted on scene by Cornwall EMS, New Windsor EMS, the Cornwall Fire Department, the Village of Cornwall on Hudson Police Department and the New York State Police BCI and Collision Re-construction Unit.
