CHITTENANGO, NY — Firefighters battled a blaze at a two-story house on Perryville Road on Sunday afternoon.
The Chittenango Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched at 3:03 p.m. to the structure fire on Perryville Road between Coon Road and Snyder Road.
Deputy Chief Mann arrived to find smoke showing from the residence with reports from bystanders of a possible victim trapped inside.
Crews confirmed no one was trapped inside, but pets remained in the house.
Chief Morgan established command and declared a working structure fire at 3:24 p.m.
Firefighters stretched multiple hand lines to extinguish the fire and search the residence while crews deployed a drop tank for tankers supplying water.
Multiple pets were rescued from the home.
Cazenovia firefighters drafted water from a nearby creek while Bridgeport Engine 4 refilled tankers from a dry hydrant on Perryville Road near Osborne Road.
After extinguishing the fire, crews overhauled burned contents and checked for extension.
All units cleared the scene and Chittenango units returned to service by 7 p.m.
Agencies responding included North Chittenango Fire Department, Cazenovia Fire Department, Bridgeport Fire Department, Manlius Fire Department, Fayetteville Fire Department, Canastota Fire Department, Lincoln Fire Department, CAVAC Ambulance, Madison County Coordinators, the Red Cross and National Grid.
The Chittenango Volunteer Fire Auxiliary, Buck’s Pizzaria, Maple Leaf Market and Dunkin donated pizza and coffee to firefighters.
