MONROE COUNTY, NY — A traffic stop on Interstate 490 led to the arrest of a convicted felon on weapon and drug charges early Thursday morning.
A Monroe County Sheriff’s deputy stopped a 2023 Cadillac Escalade at 2:24 a.m. on I-490 westbound near I-390 after observing the vehicle following too closely and having dark tinted windows.
During the traffic stop, the deputy observed indicators that the driver may be under the influence of alcohol.
The driver, James C. Gresham, 47, of Rochester, was arrested for driving while intoxicated.
An inventory search of the vehicle revealed nine 31-gram bags of cocaine, $12,940 in cash and one loaded .45 caliber Springfield Armory XD handgun with 13 rounds of ammunition.
The handgun was not reported stolen but was not registered to Gresham.
Gresham has a prior felony conviction, which prohibits him from possessing a firearm.
Gresham is charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance in the first degree, a class A-I felony; criminal possession of a weapon in the second degree, a class C felony; criminal possession of a weapon in the third degree, a class D felony; driving while intoxicated by alcohol, a class A misdemeanor; and traffic infractions for following too closely and tinted driver’s window.
Gresham was arraigned at Monroe County CAP court and is being held without bail pending his next court appearance.
