PORT EWEN, NY — A 41-year-old woman was transported to a hospital after a mental health crisis that prompted a nearly three-hour standoff with law enforcement on January 9, 2026.
Members of the Ulster County Sheriff’s Office responded to an address on Schryver Street at approximately 8:20 a.m. for a report of a woman who called 911.
It was initially reported that someone was threatening her, but authorities quickly determined she was experiencing a mental health crisis.
Upon arrival, the woman began making threats of self-harm and refused to exit the residence.
The Ulster County Crisis Negotiation Team and the Ulster County Emergency Response Team responded to the location.
After speaking with negotiators for an extended period, she willingly exited the residence at approximately 10:56 a.m.
She was transported to Health Alliance Hospital in Kingston.
During the incident, Schryver Street and a portion of Broadway were closed and traffic was rerouted to allow for the safe and efficient operation of emergency personnel.
No injuries were reported to the woman or any first responders during the incident.
No criminal charges have been filed.
The Ulster County Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by the New York State Police, Ulster County Department of Emergency Services, Port Ewen Fire Department & Ladies Auxiliary, Town of Esopus Volunteer Ambulance Squad, City of Kingston Fire Department and Central Hudson.
