Fatal crash under investigation in Millinocket

MILLINOCKET, ME — A 28-year-old Millinocket man died following a two-vehicle crash on Outer Central Street near Rice Farm Road on Thursday morning.

The East Millinocket Police Department responded to the scene at approximately 7:45 a.m. along with the Millinocket Fire Department.

First responders found a propane delivery truck and a sport utility vehicle that had both left the roadway and sustained extensive damage.

The operator of the SUV suffered critical injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene despite life-saving efforts by the Millinocket Fire Department.

Preliminary investigation indicates the SUV was traveling westbound when it lost control on ice-covered road conditions, spun out of control and crossed into the eastbound lane, where it was struck by the propane truck.

The Penobscot County Sheriff’s Office assisted with accident reconstruction and forensic mapping.

The Maine State Police Commercial Vehicle Unit conducted a commercial vehicle inspection.

The Maine Department of Environmental Protection also responded to assist on scene.

The Medway Fire Department provided station coverage as crews were committed at the scene for several hours.

The Maine Warden Service and Millinocket Public Works assisted with traffic control and road closures.
