NATICK, MA — Police investigated a report of a suspicious vehicle near a school bus stop Tuesday morning that turned out to be an Uber driver picking up a fare.

Natick Public School personnel alerted police at approximately 8 a.m. after a student reported a suspicious encounter with a vehicle operator they did not know while waiting for a school bus.

Members of the patrol and investigative divisions, a school resource officer and district school staff worked together to gather facts and begin an investigation.

Police canvassed the area for private video and reviewed Flock Public Safety Camera footage to identify the vehicle and operator.

Investigators determined the driver was an Uber driver picking up a fare directly across the street from the bus stop.

Police said they are confident there was no ill intent on the part of the driver and no threat to the community.

The department has been in contact with the school district and the student’s family to keep them updated on the investigation and findings.

Police commended the student for quickly reporting the incident to a responsible adult and asked parents and guardians to talk with their children about the dangers of interacting with strangers and the importance of reporting such interactions to a responsible person.
