COLEBROOK, NH — A Colebrook Police officer arrested a man on multiple charges following a traffic stop on Colby Street on Nov. 24.

John Cotnoir was stopped at 7:53 p.m. after an officer determined the vehicle’s registration and the registered owner’s driving privileges were suspended, according to police.

Cotnoir was identified as the registered owner and was behind the wheel when the officer approached the vehicle.

He told the officer he did not know his privileges were suspended, but a later search of his backpack revealed a notice from the Department of Motor Vehicles informing him of the suspension, police said.

During an inventory search before the vehicle was towed, officers found a blue tube with a powdery residue consistent with fentanyl in the center console, according to police.

A search of Cotnoir’s backpack revealed additional drug paraphernalia, a scale, new baggies and a bag containing powder consistent with fentanyl, police said.

Cotnoir was out on bail for possession of controlled drugs stemming from a September arrest by Colebrook police, according to the department.

He was charged with possession of controlled drug, transporting drug in a motor vehicle, contempt of court, suspension of vehicle registration, driving after revocation/suspension, failure to display plates and uninspected vehicle.

Cotnoir was held without bail and transported to the Coos County Jail.
