GUILFORD, CT — A Guilford man was arrested on multiple charges including attempted sexual assault following a domestic violence incident earlier this month.
Richard Demond, 42, of Guilford, was taken into custody after police responded to an open 911 call on Nov. 5 at approximately 8:35 p.m.
The Guilford Police Department received the call that sounded as though someone was in distress and possibly involved in a domestic violence incident.
A police dispatcher worked with responding patrol officers to quickly determine the location of the open 911 call.
When officers arrived at the scene, an active domestic violence incident was still taking place that included an attempted sexual assault in progress.
Officers quickly intervened and took Demond into custody.
Demond was later charged by arrest warrant with criminal attempt to commit sexual assault in the first degree, strangulation in the first degree, assault in the second degree, threatening in the second degree, unlawful restraint in the first degree, interfering with an emergency call and disorderly conduct.
Demond was held on a court-set $250,000 bond and was brought to New Haven Superior Court on Nov. 12 for arraignment.
The Guilford Police Department worked in conjunction with the New Haven State’s Attorney’s Office.
