House fire extinguished in Wilson

WILSON, NY — A deputy on patrol discovered a house fire Nov. 3 after observing black smoke coming from a chimney on Harris Avenue.

Deputy Proch was patrolling at 1:49 p.m. when he saw a large amount of black smoke emanating from the chimney area of a residence.

The deputy approached the home and attempted to extinguish the fire using a portable fire extinguisher but was unsuccessful.

Deputy Proch made contact with the homeowner, who was able to safely evacuate the residence without injury.

Fire personnel from the Ransomville Volunteer Fire Company and the South Wilson Volunteer Fire Company responded to the scene and successfully extinguished the fire.

The residence sustained fire and smoke damage.

No injuries were reported.

An investigation into the cause of the fire is being conducted by the Niagara County Fire Investigation Unit.
