Man jumps from bridge in Middletown

MIDDLETOWN, CT — A man jumped from the Arrigoni Bridge on Wednesday morning and suffered serious injuries, police said.

Middletown Police received a call at approximately 9:18 a.m. from a passing motorist reporting that a male had intentionally jumped from the bridge.

Police and fire officials initially believed the man had gone into the Connecticut River and deployed boats to search the area.

A short time later, authorities determined the man had not entered the river.

The man was located in the area of Portland Street and transported to Hartford Hospital for serious physical injuries.

He is listed in stable condition.

Police Chief Erik Costa said this is an active investigation and the man’s name is not being released at this time.
