TUSCARORA, NY — Two Brooklyn residents were arrested Oct. 18 in connection with an alleged computer scam targeting a local resident.

Chengbin Lin, 49, and Linquing Chen, 48, both of Brooklyn, were charged with attempted grand larceny in the third degree, a class E felony, and criminal facilitation in the fourth degree.

Steuben County Sheriff Jim Allard said Lin and Chen allegedly remotely took control of a Tuscarora resident’s computer and attempted to scam $28,000 from that person.

The victim contacted the Sheriff’s Office with information about the scam and how the payment was arranged to occur.

Deputies intervened and arrested Lin and Chen.

Further investigation revealed that both Lin and Chen had been previously deported and were not legally in the United States when arrested.

Both were turned over to federal agents prior to arraignment.
