Coxsackie man dies after motorcycle hits deer on state route

CATSKILL — A 66-year-old Coxsackie man died after his motorcycle struck a deer on State Route 23A on Sunday evening, according to the Greene County Sheriff’s Office.

John Bono was operating a 2020 Harley Davidson motorcycle eastbound on SR 23A near Underhill Road in the Town of Catskill at approximately 6:54 p.m. Sept. 14 when he struck a deer that had run into the roadway.

Sheriff’s deputies and first responders performed life-saving measures at the scene.

Bono was transported by helicopter to Albany Medical Center, where he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead.

The Greene County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by Kiskatom Fire Department, Catskill Ambulance and Greene EMS.
