Colebrook woman arrested on DUI charges after wrong-way driving on Hughes Road

COLEBROOK — A 22-year-old Connecticut woman was arrested on DUI charges after police observed her driving on the wrong side of Hughes Road Sept. 5.

Shannon Barr of Oneco, Connecticut, was charged with DUI, open container and failure to drive on the right side of the road following the 7:35 p.m. incident.

A Colebrook police officer on patrol observed a vehicle driving on the wrong side of Hughes Road as it approached a blind hill and corner.

The officer initiated a traffic stop and observed the operator to be impaired.

Field sobriety testing confirmed the impairment suspected by the officer.

A roadside preliminary breath test showed Barr’s alcohol concentration to be 0.179, over twice the legal limit.

The male passenger was found unconscious in the vehicle and EMS was called.

Upon arrival of EMS, the passenger was able to be awakened and evaluated.

The passenger was determined to be highly intoxicated and was placed into protective custody and later transported to the Coos County Jail.

The vehicle was inventoried and towed.

During the inventory, the officer discovered a large amount of both open and unopened alcohol inside the vehicle.

Marijuana was also located.

Barr was transported to the hospital where she submitted to an evidentiary blood draw.

She was then transported to the Colebrook Police Department for booking.

Barr was booked and released on bail pending arraignment in Colebrook District Court.

Due to her intoxication upon release, she was taken to the Grafton County Jail for protective custody.
