Independence man killed in motorcycle crash on Route 248

INDEPENDENCE — Troopers from State Police Amity responded to a two-vehicle collision involving a motorcycle at 3:08 p.m. on Sept. 1 on State Route 248 in the town of Independence.

An investigation determined that a 2004 Harley-Davidson motorcycle was traveling west in the eastbound lane when it was struck by a 2017 Toyota Rav-4 traveling east.

The operator of the motorcycle, Douglas F. Barney, 49, of Independence, was pronounced deceased at the scene.

All occupants of the Rav-4 were transported to Jones Memorial Hospital in Wellsville for minor injuries.

An autopsy for Barney has been scheduled at Olean General Hospital.

The New York State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit and Bureau of Criminal Investigation assisted in the investigation.
