SHELTON — A former Shelton High School teacher and coach was arrested Aug. 22 on charges of sexual assault and other offenses involving a student.
Jason Kymer, 38, of Beacon Falls was charged with second-degree sexual assault, risk of injury to a child and tampering with a witness.
He was released on $50,000 bond and is scheduled to appear Aug. 25 at Derby Superior Court.
The arrest stems from information police received in June.
Police said they learned Kymer was involved in a sexual relationship with a female student while he was a teacher and coach at Shelton High School.
Detectives located the victim, who told police the sexual relationship with Kymer began when she was a 17-year-old student at the school.
The victim said the sexual contact occurred at the school.
During the investigation, police learned the victim received a call from an unknown number.
The victim told police she had blocked Kymer’s number, but when she answered the unknown call, she recognized Kymer’s voice.
Police said Kymer told the victim “Just do the right thing.”
