Fatal crash in Newburgh kills 1, injures none in head-on collision

NEWBURGH — The Penobscot County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a fatal traffic crash that occurred Wednesday morning on Route 69.

At approximately 11:55 a.m., the Penobscot Regional Communications Center received a report of a serious traffic crash on Route 69, near the Route 202 intersection.

Deputies arriving on scene found a 2014 Porsche sedan that had been struck head-on by a 2015 Volvo tractor-trailer truck.

Preliminary reports indicate the Porsche was traveling west when it crossed the centerline on a curve in the road.

The sedan then collided head-on with the tractor-trailer, which was loaded with junk metal.

The tractor-trailer left the roadway, striking a residential garage.

The male driver of the sedan was pronounced deceased at the scene.

A dog in the vehicle was transported to a local veterinarian but died during transport.

The male driver of the tractor-trailer was not injured in the crash.

The investigation was conducted by sheriff’s office deputies, supported by reconstruction specialists and a drone team.

The Maine State Police Commercial Vehicle Unit assisted with the commercial vehicle inspection.

The Newburgh and Carmel Fire Departments, along with the Maine Department of Transportation, also contributed to the response efforts.

The identities of the individuals involved will remain undisclosed pending the ongoing investigation.
