16-year-old crashes into tree avoiding cat in Georgia

GEORGIA — A 16-year-old driver crashed into a tree Friday afternoon after swerving to avoid a cat on Sodom Road.

The single-vehicle crash occurred at 4:30 p.m. near Smittybrook Road under clear skies and dry road conditions.

Vermont State Police troopers from the St. Albans barracks responded to the scene.

The juvenile operator from Alburgh was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.

The driver told troopers they left the roadway to avoid hitting a cat that ran into the road.

The 2002 Toyota Camry sustained heavy front-end damage.

The operator was transported to Northwestern Medical Center for suspected minor injuries.

Georgia Fire Department and Fairfax Rescue assisted at the scene.
