Catskill traffic stop leads to drug arrests, cocaine seizure

CATSKILL — The Catskill Police Department conducted a traffic stop in the area of Water Street on July 9 that led to drug charges against two people.

The driver was identified as Grace Robinson, 41, and the front passenger as Shawntay Wellsey, 39.

A further investigation at the scene led to the discovery of approximately 2.5 grams of crack cocaine and 4 grams of powdered cocaine.

Both individuals were taken into custody and transported to the Catskill Police Department for processing.

Shawntay Wellsey of Catskill was charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance in the 3rd degree, a class B felony.

Wellsey also was charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance in the 4th degree, a class C felony, and criminal possession of a controlled substance in the 5th degree, a class D felony.

Wellsey additionally was charged with tampering with physical evidence, a class E felony.

Wellsey was arraigned and remanded to the Greene County Jail.

Grace Robinson of Gilboa was charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance in the 7th degree, a class A misdemeanor.

Robinson was released on an appearance ticket returnable to the Catskill Town Court.
