MILFORD — Police officers rescued a driver from a vehicle that plunged into a pond behind Stonebridge Restaurant early Thursday morning.
Officers patrolling the downtown area around 1 a.m. observed the vehicle drive off New Haven Avenue into the water.
The officers immediately jumped into the pond and removed the occupant before the vehicle submerged.
The Milford Fire Department responded to evaluate the driver for injuries.
Police took the driver into custody and charged him with driving under the influence and evading.
Investigators discovered the driver had also struck a vehicle in the area of Shipyard Lane before fleeing and driving into the pond.
