NORTH HAVEN, CT — A second arrest has been made in connection with a May 31 shooting on Whitney Avenue, police said.
Officers responded to the area after reports of a shooting and found a person on a moped who had been shot, police said.
The victim was taken to a hospital for treatment.
The victim told investigators he was followed by multiple people, intentionally struck by a vehicle and shot after a dispute, police said.
Detectives identified the driver of the vehicle as Steven Valentin, 20, of New Haven, police said.
The day after the shooting, Valentin flew to Florida in an apparent attempt to avoid arrest, police said.
He was detained by Florida law enforcement upon arrival but released because no warrant had been issued at that time, police said.
An extraditable arrest warrant was approved June 18, police said.
Detectives tracked Valentin to Florida and learned July 6 that he had boarded a train to New York, police said.
He then boarded a train from New York to New Haven, police said.
Valentin was arrested without incident July 7 by North Haven detectives and FBI task force officers upon his arrival in New Haven, police said.
He was charged with criminal attempt to commit assault in the first degree, conspiracy to commit assault in the first degree and two counts of reckless endangerment in the first degree, police said.
Valentin was held on $75,000 bond and transported to court July 8, police said.
The investigation remains active, police said.
