Multiple firearms seized after shots fired in Hartford

HARTFORD, CT — Police seized six firearms and recovered dozens of spent shell casings after responding to reports of gunfire during a large gathering early Sunday morning.

The Hartford Police Department Dispatch Center received a 911 call at approximately 12:07 a.m. on July 4, 2026, reporting approximately 50 gunshots in the area of Garden Street.

Members of the Street Crimes Unit, already nearby, confirmed the gunfire was originating from the area of Edgewood Street.

As officers arrived at 417 Edgewood Street, they heard additional gunfire and observed a large gathering in the rear yard of the property.

Officers approached the backyard, where numerous spent shell casings were located.

Additional officers responded and safely detained a large group of individuals without incident.

During the investigation, officers determined that two individuals possessed valid pistol permits and lawfully possessed registered firearms.

An additional five firearms were recovered during a canvass of the rear yard.

The six firearms recovered included a Glock Model 21 .45 caliber, a Smith & Wesson 9mm, a Smith & Wesson .357 Magnum, a Glock Model 45 9mm, a Taurus PT92 9mm and a Taurus PT940 .40 caliber.

Officers also recovered 19 spent 9mm shell casings, six spent .40 caliber shell casings, three spent .357 Magnum shell casings and 19 live rounds of assorted calibers.

No gunshot victims have been reported by area hospitals, and investigators found no evidence indicating anyone had been struck by gunfire.

The investigation remains ongoing.
