COLONIE, NY — A Cohoes man faces assault charges after police say he crossed into oncoming traffic and struck a motorcycle, seriously injuring two people.
William J. Mackey, 39, of Cohoes, was arrested for assault in the second degree for recklessly causing serious physical injury with a dangerous instrument.
The Colonie Police Department responded to the area of Columbia Street Extension and Bridget Circle at approximately 3:45 p.m. Wednesday for a two-vehicle crash involving a black 2005 Cadillac SUV and a green 2021 Tao motorcycle.
Upon arrival, officers found two occupants of the motorcycle injured in the roadway.
The Cadillac was located stopped approximately one-quarter mile away from the crash scene.
Both motorcycle occupants, a 55-year-old man from Cohoes and a 20-year-old woman from Schenectady, were transported to Albany Medical Center with serious but non-life threatening injuries.
Mackey was also transported to Albany Medical Center for a medical complaint.
The investigation revealed that the Cadillac crossed into the motorcyclist’s lane of travel, striking the motorcycle.
Mackey remains in police custody and details regarding an arraignment in local court are pending.
Columbia Street Extension was closed for several hours but has reopened to all traffic.
