NEWPORT, NH — Six juveniles have been identified in connection with vandalism at the Richards Free Library that caused thousands of dollars in damage.
Newport Police and Newport Fire responded to a box alarm at the library at approximately 10:20 p.m. July 1, 2026.
Upon arrival, they discovered the sprinkler system had been vandalized.
School Resource Officer Shawn Seymour, who is currently assigned to the Patrol Division during summer vacation, collected physical evidence at the scene, canvassed the neighborhood for witnesses, extracted nearby surveillance video and patrolled the area for suspects.
Within a couple of hours, Officer Seymour identified six juveniles who were involved in the incident.
The matter will be handled through the juvenile justice system and no further information can be released at this time.
