Stabbing reported in Utica

UTICA, NY — Utica police and fire units were dispatched at about 9 p.m. June 10 to a residence in the 500 block of Square Street for a reported stabbing.

Police said officers spoke with a victim who reported that his stepson entered his bedroom and began arguing with him.

During the argument, the suspect stabbed the victim several times in the back, police said.

The victim fought back, and the suspect also suffered several lacerations during the altercation, according to police.

Both were taken to Wynn Hospital with injuries that were not considered life-threatening.

After the suspect was released from the hospital, police took him into custody and transported him to the Utica Police Department.

Mitchell Cummings, 45, of Utica, was charged with second-degree assault and third-degree criminal possession of a weapon.
