KINGSTON, MA — Police arrested a man accused of brandishing what appeared to be a firearm during a high school prom at a country club Thursday evening.

Adrian Arroyo, 18, of Randolph, was taken into custody following an incident at Indian Pond Country Club at 60 Country Club Way during the South Shore Technical High School prom.

Police responded to the venue at approximately 7:15 p.m. after an on-site detail officer requested assistance for reports of a male displaying a firearm in the parking lot.

Arroyo is not a student at the school but was attending the prom due to a previous relationship with an attendee, according to police.

Investigators said a verbal argument occurred and Arroyo was joined in the parking lot by two female attendees where the dispute escalated.

Police allege Arroyo threatened to strike a student with his vehicle and brandished a black firearm, pointing it into the air and appearing to load a round into the chamber.

Witnesses described the weapon as a black semi-automatic style pistol.

Arroyo fled the area in his vehicle before officers arrived in the parking lot, police said.

Officers canvassed the area, conducted witness interviews, maintained an increased police presence at the prom and issued a regional law enforcement bulletin.

Randolph police located Arroyo at his residence, where he surrendered peacefully after officers surrounded the home.

Kingston police detectives obtained a search warrant for Arroyo’s residence and located a black Crossman BB gun replica pistol in the glovebox of a vehicle at the property.

No firearms were found, and the BB gun matched the physical description provided by witnesses, police said.

No injuries were reported during the incident.

Arroyo is expected to be arraigned in Plymouth District Court on multiple felony charges, including assault with a dangerous weapon.
