Incarcerated man dies after assault at Marcy Correctional Facility

MARCY, NY — New York State Police are investigating the death of an incarcerated man who was assaulted at Marcy Correctional Facility.

Terry Demonstoy, 45, was found unconscious in a bathroom with significant injuries at approximately 11:55 p.m. on May 15, 2026, by a correction officer.

Demonstoy was transported to Wynn Hospital, where he was treated in the intensive care unit.

He remained on a ventilator and was legally pronounced deceased on May 18, 2026, at 3:18 p.m.

An autopsy was scheduled through the Onondaga County Medical Examiner’s Office on May 21, 2026.

Investigators believe Demonstoy’s injuries were sustained during an altercation with another incarcerated individual.

New York State Police are assisting the Office of the Attorney General with the investigation.

Pursuant to New York State Executive Law Section 70-b, the Attorney General’s Office has jurisdiction in matters involving the death of a person while in custody, or in cases where there is a question as to whether the death was caused by the act or omission of a police officer or peace officer.
