HORSEHEADS, NY — Firefighters responded to a dwelling fire on the 400 block of Perry Street at approximately 11:15 a.m. on May 20.

The Horseheads Fire/Rescue Department Engine 1032 arrived first on scene and observed smoke and fire at the front of the 2.5-story dwelling.

All occupants had safely evacuated before firefighters arrived, according to Horseheads Police.

Engine 732 from EHFD secured a hydrant to supply water to Engine 1032.

Crew members deployed pre-connected hoses and knocked down visible fire on the porch and second floor.

Additional units, including HFD Engine 1031 and T&cfd, assisted in searching for fire extension.

Due to the age and construction type of the dwelling, which had balloon frame construction, extensive overhaul operations were undertaken.

The investigation team from HFD and Chemung County EMO determined the fire’s cause and origin to be accidental.
