BIG FLATS, NY — A motorcyclist sustained life-threatening injuries in a crash on Interstate 86 on May 19.
A Chemung County Sheriff’s Deputy was dispatched at 8:22 a.m. to a motor vehicle accident involving a passenger vehicle that struck a deer in the eastbound lane of Interstate 86, between exits 50 and 51A.
While on scene, a single vehicle accident occurred involving a 37-year-old male operating a Harley Davidson motorcycle.
The operator sustained life-threatening injuries and was transported to Corning Guthrie Hospital for medical treatment.
He was later transferred to Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre, Pennsylvania, for further treatment.
The Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Division was called to the scene to assist with the investigation.
Through the investigation, it was determined that there was a high traffic density with vehicles abruptly braking.
The operator of the motorcycle avoided a collision with another vehicle by applying its brakes, however lost control.
The operator was ultimately ejected from the motorcycle and landed on the roadway.
Also assisting the Chemung County Sheriff’s Office on scene were the New York State Police, Big Flats Fire Department, Erway Ambulance, New York State DOT and Rinwalske Towing.
