ROME, NY — A 79-year-old woman has died from injuries sustained in a single-vehicle crash Saturday afternoon.
Jean Spinelli, of Rome, was a passenger in a 2017 Honda HRV that crashed on Rome Westernville Road near Golf Course Road at approximately 5:32 p.m., according to Oneida County Sheriff Robert Maciol.
The vehicle was traveling southbound when it veered into the northbound lane, drove off the eastern shoulder and struck an embankment, causing it to flip over end over end multiple times before coming to rest, Maciol said.
Spinelli was transported to Rome Hospital with serious injuries and later died, according to the sheriff’s office.
The driver, Philip Spinelli, 85, of Rome, sustained serious injuries and was transported to Upstate University Hospital via Mercy Flight.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
The Oneida County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the New York State Police, Mercy Flight, AmCare Ambulance, Lake Delta Fire Department, Rome Fire Department and North Country Towing.
