TRENTON, ME — Five suspects were taken into custody Wednesday following burglaries at businesses in Trenton and Ellsworth.

The Hancock County Sheriff’s Office responded to a burglary reported at 4:48 a.m. at a business in Trenton.

After leaving the Trenton business, the suspects traveled to Ellsworth, where they burglarized another business.

Deputy Anthony Jones located the suspect vehicle on Oak Point Road and followed it onto Bar Harbor Road, where he initiated a traffic stop.

After the arrival of Lt. Brian Archer and a Bar Harbor police officer to assist with a felony stop, the vehicle fled, and a brief pursuit ensued but was terminated due to safety concerns during the morning commute.

The suspect vehicle was later located in Waldo County and subsequently failed to stop for several other law enforcement agencies before ultimately crashing in Waterville, resulting in all occupants being taken into police custody.

The occupants included four juvenile males and one adult male, identified as Larando Sweeting, 18, of Lewiston.

Sweeting was charged with Class C burglary, Class C aggravated criminal mischief and Class C theft by unauthorized taking or transfer.

He was transported to the Hancock County Jail.

The four juveniles were charged in connection with the investigation and transported to a juvenile detention facility.

Detective Rick Canarr has been assigned as the lead investigator for this case.
