HIGHLAND, NY — A Newburgh man was arrested and charged with felony aggravated driving while intoxicated under Leandra’s Law after a traffic stop on Route 9W.
Matthew K. Pirela, 31, of Newburgh, was stopped for traffic violations on May 17 while operating a vehicle with a 7-year-old child inside, according to Town of Lloyd Police.
Pirela was transported to Ulster County Jail to await arraignment in Ulster County Centralized Arraignment Parts Court.
In a separate incident, Theresa A. Williams, 46, of Kingston, was arrested May 13 and charged with driving while ability impaired by drugs and seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance.
Williams was found passed out behind the wheel of her running vehicle in the parking lot of Lowe’s in Highland, police said.
She was released on an appearance ticket and is scheduled to appear in Town of Lloyd Court on May 28, 2026.
Shaquille O. Wimberly, 32, of Newburgh, was arrested May 15 on a bench warrant for petit larceny.
Wimberly was transported to Ulster County Jail to await arraignment in Ulster County Centralized Arraignment Parts Court.
