Motorcycles collide in West Burke

WEST BURKE, VT — Two motorcyclists were injured after a head-on collision on Vermont Route 5A on May 16, 2026.

Anthony Gibson, 22, of Montpelier, was traveling south on Route 5A near Sargents Road at 5:46 p.m. when he was unable to maintain his lane of travel, according to Vermont State Police.

Gibson crossed the center line and collided with a northbound motorcycle operated by Gilbert Trenholme, 70, of Barton.

Gibson sustained serious non-life threatening injuries and was transported to Dartmouth Hospital.

Trenholme sustained moderate non-life threatening injuries and was transported to Northeastern Vermont Regional Hospital.

Gibson was operating a 2026 Kawasaki Ninja ZX-6R, which was totaled in the crash.

Trenholme was operating a 2009 BMW G 650 GS, which was also totaled.

Road conditions were dry and weather was clear at the time of the crash.

Vermont State Police were assisted at the scene by Sutton Fire Department, West Burke Fire Department, Orleans Rescue and Trusted Towing.
