Drug charges filed in Cairo

CAIRO, NY — New York State Police said Coty M. O’Keefe, 39, of Greenville, and Garret F. Auer, 49, of Greenville, were arrested May 10 on drug-related charges after a traffic stop in the town of Cairo.

Troopers from the State Police Greenville barracks said they observed a 2009 Toyota traveling on County Route 23B at about 12:01 a.m. in violation of state vehicle and traffic laws and initiated a stop.

Police said troopers interviewed the driver, O’Keefe, and the passenger, Auer, and then searched the vehicle during the investigation.

Investigators said they recovered a plastic bag containing about 0.45 grams of blue pills identified as amphetamine, a foil package containing about 0.88 grams of buprenorphine, about 0.88 grams of crystal methamphetamine in a paper bag, and a clear plastic bag containing about 21.15 grams of cocaine.

Police said a search of O’Keefe found about 0.73 grams of crack cocaine in a clear plastic bag.

A search of Auer’s personal property found about 0.8 grams of buprenorphine, police said.

O’Keefe was charged with two counts of third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, including intent to sell and narcotic possession, both class B felonies.

He also was charged with fifth-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance involving 500 milligrams of cocaine, a class D felony, tampering with physical evidence, a class E felony, criminal use of drug paraphernalia in the second degree, four counts of seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, manufacture of drug-related paraphernalia, possession of a controlled substance in a non-original container, aggravated unlicensed operation in the second degree, and multiple uniform traffic infractions.

Auer was charged with two counts of third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, including intent to sell and narcotic possession, both class B felonies.

He also was charged with first-degree criminal use of drug paraphernalia, a class D felony, seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, and manufacture of drug-related paraphernalia, both class A misdemeanors.

Police said both men were processed at State Police Catskill without incident.

They were arraigned in Cairo Town Court and remanded to the Greene County Jail without bail, police said.

Both are scheduled to return to Cairo Town Court on May 19 at 2 p.m.
