Man arrested as fugitive in Elmira

ELMIRA, NY — A man wanted in New Jersey on a firearm charge was arrested following a field interview in the Town of Elmira.

Chester J. Harris IV, 43, of Elmira, was taken into custody May 12 as a fugitive from justice, according to the Chemung County Sheriff’s Office.

Members of the Road Patrol Division conducted a field interview with Harris on Lake Road in the Town of Elmira.

During the interview, deputies determined Harris was wanted as a fugitive from justice from New Jersey on a charge of possession of a firearm for unlawful use, in violation of New Jersey law.

The Criminal Investigations Division assisted in the investigation and received the warrant from Union County, New Jersey, requesting that Harris be held.

Harris was arrested and processed as a fugitive from justice.

He was arraigned by the Town of Southport Court and remanded to the Chemung County Jail awaiting extradition to New Jersey.
