Man arrested on child exploitation charges in Middletown

MIDDLETOWN, NY — A 20-year-old man faces multiple felony charges related to child sexual exploitation following an investigation by the New York State Police.

Alexis J. Rios Mendez, of Middletown, was arrested May 1, 2026, by the Troop F Computer Crimes unit.

Rios Mendez is charged with three counts of possessing an obscene sexual performance by a child less than 16 years of age, possess or access, a class E felony, and three counts of promote an obscene sexual performance by a child less than 17 years of age, a class D felony.

The investigation began April 18, 2026, following a cybertip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.

State police executed a search warrant at Rios Mendez’s residence in Middletown on May 1, 2026.

The investigation was conducted by the New York State Police Troop F Computer Crimes Unit, in coordination with the Troop F Child Abuse Unit, State Police Middletown Barracks and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

Rios Mendez was arraigned at the Middletown City Court Central Arraignment Part and remanded to Orange County Jail pending a future court date.
