DEERFIELD, NY — A highway department worker was injured when heavy equipment he was operating rolled over on May 11, 2026.
According to Oneida County Sheriff Robert Maciol, road patrol deputies responded to Bell Hill Road at around 8:13 a.m. for a reported motor vehicle accident rollover with injuries.
Deputies determined that Shane Bailey, 54, of Newport, was operating a smooth drum roller for Deerfield DPW in an easterly direction on Bell Hill Road when the machinery lost power.
Unable to control the equipment, Bailey exited the roadway onto the northern shoulder, causing the equipment to tip on its side, leaving Bailey entrapped.
Clinton Collision towed the equipment from the scene.
Bailey was transported to Wynn Hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.
Patrol deputies were assisted on scene by the Maynard Fire Department, Mercy Flight, Deerfield Fire, Kunkle Ambulance and the New York State Police.
