Man arrested on ethnic intimidation charge in Verona

VERONA, PA — A man faces multiple charges after allegedly shouting racial slurs at shoppers and assaulting a police officer Thursday afternoon.

Verona Police responded to a disturbance at Rivertown Shopping Center at approximately 2:42 p.m. May 7, 2026.

Officers encountered a male suspect who was reportedly highly intoxicated and shouting racial slurs at people.

The suspect became combative when officers attempted to take him into custody.

Officers deployed a taser and physically subdued the suspect to transport him to the police station.

The suspect resisted arrest again outside the police station, initiating a violent struggle.

One police officer sustained injuries in the altercation and was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment.

The suspect was eventually secured.

He faces charges of ethnic intimidation, aggravated assault on a police officer, resisting arrest and public drunkenness.

The suspect has been lodged at the Allegheny County Jail to await arraignment.
