Juveniles arrested in stolen vehicle case in Guilderland

GUILDERLAND, NY — Two juveniles from Schenectady were arrested early Thursday after police located a stolen vehicle in the town.

Members of the Guilderland Police Department observed a vehicle reported stolen out of Schenectady traveling in the area of Rapp Road at approximately 2:06 a.m. on May 7, 2026.

Patrol units attempted to initiate a traffic stop, but the vehicle fled from officers into Albany.

The vehicle was later located by Guilderland units and stopped on Springsteen Road near the Guilderland/Albany border.

The operator exited the vehicle and fled on foot into a nearby wooded area.

Officers established a perimeter, which led to the apprehension of the operator.

A passenger was also located hiding inside the vehicle.

The operator, a 15-year-old from Schenectady whose identity will not be released due to their age, was charged with criminal possession of stolen property in the third degree, unlawful fleeing a police officer, resisting arrest and obstruction of governmental administration.

The juvenile was processed and released on an appearance ticket to Albany County Probation.

The passenger, a 17-year-old from Schenectady whose identity will not be released due to their age, was charged with criminal possession of stolen property in the third degree.

The juvenile was arraigned in Youth Part Court and remanded to the Capital District Juvenile Secure Detention Facility.

The vehicle was recovered pending its return to its owner.
