Man arrested on drug charges in Auburn

AUBURN, NY — Auburn police arrested a man on drug charges after taking him into custody on an outstanding warrant May 4.

Harold J. Wallace Jr. was walking west on East Genesee Street between Seminary Avenue and John Street at 9:17 p.m. when Officers Barnes and Bufano recognized him, according to Sgt. D. Edmonds.

The officers were aware Wallace had an active arrest warrant for assault in the third degree from the Rochester Police Department.

Wallace was taken into custody without incident at East Genesee Street and Seminary Avenue.

A search following his arrest revealed Wallace was in possession of 3.2 ounces of crack cocaine, a digital weighing scale and $5,987 in U.S. currency, police said.

Wallace was charged with two counts of criminal possession of a controlled substance in the third degree, both class B felonies.

He was transported to Cayuga County Jail for centralized arraignment proceedings at 7 a.m. May 5, where he was released on his own recognizance for the Auburn charges.

Wallace remained at the jail pending Rochester police responding to take custody of him on their warrant.
