SOUTHEAST, NY — A traffic stop on Interstate 84 led to the arrest of a Connecticut man on a felony gun charge May 3, 2026.
New York State Police conducted the stop at approximately 2:49 a.m. on a vehicle traveling eastbound in the town of Southeast for a violation of the New York State Vehicle and Traffic Law.
Troopers observed a loaded Glock 9mm handgun in plain view while interviewing the driver, Jayden A. Samaniego, 21, of Danbury, Connecticut.
The firearm was loaded with a magazine containing multiple rounds of ammunition.
Samaniego was arrested and charged with one count of Criminal Possession of a Firearm in the 2nd Degree (Loaded Firearm), a class C felony.
He was arraigned in the Town of Carmel Court and released on his own recognizance.
Samaniego is scheduled to appear in the Town of Southeast Court on May 14, 2026, at 1 p.m.
