Man cited for excessive speed in Waterbury

WATERBURY, VT — A Waterbury man was cited for excessive speed on Interstate 89 on May 1, 2026.

Vermont State Police were patrolling I-89 in the area of mile marker 66 at approximately 4:39 p.m. when troopers observed a vehicle traveling southbound at a high rate of speed.

Radar indicated the vehicle was traveling at 100 mph in a posted 65 mph zone.

Upon initiating a traffic stop, the operator was identified as Sean Gibbs, 48, of Waterbury.

Troopers issued Gibbs a citation to appear in Vermont Superior Court – Washington Criminal Division on June 18, 2026, at 8:30 a.m.

Gibbs was also issued a Vermont Civil Violation Complaint for the speed, a violation of Title 23 VSA 1004, which carries a penalty of two points and a $530 fine.
