NEW ROCHELLE, NY — Two New York City men were arrested Sunday evening after Westchester County police officers found a loaded stolen handgun during a traffic stop on the Hutchinson River Parkway.

At 6:45 p.m. Sunday, the Real Time Crime Center broadcast an alert that a Volkswagen Jetta was traveling on the Cross County Parkway with phony Pennsylvania license plates.

Patrol officers located the vehicle and followed it onto the Hutchinson River Parkway, where they conducted a traffic stop south of Webster Avenue in New Rochelle.

Officers recovered a loaded Taurus 9mm handgun with a high-capacity magazine from the car.

Police determined the handgun was stolen during a burglary in Georgia in 2023.

Both suspects have prior felony convictions, according to police.

The men were charged with criminal possession of a weapon in the second degree, two counts of criminal possession of a weapon in the third degree and criminal possession of stolen property in the fourth degree.

The third-degree weapon charges stem from the high-capacity magazine and the suspects’ previous convictions.

They were booked at County Police headquarters in Hawthorne and held overnight for arraignment in New Rochelle City Court.

At arraignment, they were remanded to the Westchester County Jail in lieu of bail.

Police also determined the vehicle was wanted in connection to an investigation in another jurisdiction.

That agency was notified of the arrests and the impoundment of the vehicle.

Police are withholding the suspects’ identities due to the ongoing investigation.
